"Music is not magic," said one therapist. "But in a hospital or at home, for young people or older ones, it can be a potent medicine that helps us all."

It's not a new thing. Once, I visited a woman with cancer in the hospital. She was about to have nervous breakdown and in need of restoring balance. It's good I brought a music tape. When she heard the music, she requested for it over and over again. Even later over the telephone, she would again ask me to play the music!

Music therapy is proving to be effective in key medical areas. Clinical researchers at the UCLA School of Nursing in Los Angeles found that premature babies gained weight faster when they listened to sweet music. Doctors are also discovering that music can give patients with physical, emotional, and mental problems a positive outlook in life.

I have a confession to make. I like singing by myself. In order to ward off stress or fatigue, one of my habits is to listen to music or sing a tune. Music makes me see the forest when the trees are getting in my way. It helps me get more rested. Or else, I'd go nuts!

Try it your self. With music, you can have a light heart even though the hurden you're carrying is great. It could transport you to another world. It can remind you that the universe is bigger than your small, little corner and put you in touch with God, His power, His plans.
