When I hear the term “level playing field” I think of baseball. My father used to watch every game on television that he could, and I learned to enjoy the game as well (something my mother detested). Anyway, the field is so beautiful, green and level. The bases are placed precisely a certain distance from each other. Picture perfect for the boys (and girls) of summer. How does the term apply to Christians?
We all enter into the Kingdom the same way. Jesus tells Nicodemus that except a man is born again, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Jesus continues to explain that this is a spiritual birth that everybody must go through. Then comes the deathblow—if you can’t understand physical things, how will you expect to understand the things of the spirit?
We are not all the same age; we are not the same in intelligence or desires—we are very different. We are not on a level playing field physically and mentally. Some learn at a faster rate of speed, others act immediately, while others ponder all the options before being obedient to the Lord’s command. How would that look on a baseball field?
Where we have a level playing field is when we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our life; when we recognize that He is the Author and Finisher of our Faith; and that if we know the Son, we know the Father—they are one, as we become one with them. Now that’s a level playing field where everyone who enters in wins.
If you don’t know Jesus today, or made a turn off the path come on in and join the team, life is so sweet when you know the Lord.
