This novel writing I have gotten involved in must have hit my fiction muse. Today I started thinking about the Little Red Hen and her company of companions. Then I started to relate it to people in general. My, my, my .... and of course, the Holy Spirit gave me a scripture to put to the tale.

It is told that the Little Red Hen was a very industrious creature. She had goals, a vision, a plan, and a proceeded to put her purpose into action. She was never one to be seen sitting around not doing anything and expecting others to do everything. She was a contributor not a taker. Life is give and take, at least that's what we expect, right?

Well, her friends all loved gurl's soul food cookin. She could put out a spread and have your wanting more, even when you had to roll all the way home. (never fried chicken however) To continue, Ms. Hen loved to make bread and knew her friends loved it too. She asked each of them to help her plant the wheat. Then to help her water and take care of the wheat, and as it became mature she asked them to help her harvest the wheat. At each stage they all declined to give any help. That's okay, she said, I'll do it myself...and her friends let her.

All the work being done, she asked if they wanted to come over and help cook the bread--again her friends declined. That's okay, I'll do it myself, and she did. The aroma of the cooked bread went throughout the yard and the mouths of her friends started to water with the desire for the hot fresh bread Ms. Hen had just completed. Does this sound like situations you've been in?
Well, she asked if they wanted some...of course, yes, gurl you know I do ...wonderful compliments came forth praising her work and generosity. We know that the story ends with the Little Red Hen telling her friends that they had not been partakers of the work, there fore they weren't going to have the bounties of the harvest.

God tells us the same thing. He has prepared the world for us, promised an abundance of every good thing, and Jesus has gone to prepare a mansion for us to live in for eternity--with Him. First we cannot be sloughful like the friends of the Little Red Hen. We are to be workers in the kingdom, joint heirs with Christ. He called each to be a minister, to make disciples of the nations, to be a witness for Him.

"God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? Who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God." Psalm 53:2-4 KJV

Perhaps you've had friends or family, or have them in your life right now that don’t support you in your walk with Christ. Perhaps you want to begin or start over but afraid because of friends and family. Jesus loves you so much.

Come and eat the bread of life--the Word of God daily; and drink from the well of living water. You will not find a more satisfying meal anywhere. PRAYER: Lord, I thank you today for all that you have prepared and made available for me. Lord Jesus, it is important that I know my purpose and that I have your perfect will for me in my life. I thank you for doing the work of creation and then, the work on the cross for my sin and eternal life. Thank you for helping me each step of the way. Amen
