Leviticus 18: 24-30
I do not stand in judgment. Let me repeat that, I do not stand in judgment, first because I can judge no man. God is the Judge, and I am a servant. I was directed to read Leviticus the 18th chapter, after reading it, my mind immediately went to Hurricane Katrina.
Why, one may ask. Contained in the 24th thru 30th verses are words of warning from God to the people of Israel. Scriptures which warn against abominable acts of incest, adultery, and fornication. Scriptures that tell us in verse 24, to defile not yourselves in any of these things, for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you. The scriptures go on to say, in verse 25, And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomited out her inhabitants.
To that I say, who among us is safe? Who among us is safe from a warning unheeded, not only for the people of Israel in the days of Moses, but for the people of today? This is not a word to only the victims of Hurricane Katrina, but a word to this Nation, and this World, a word of immediate warning, and a word of commanding caution.
For the scriptures go on to tell us in verse 26, Ye shall therefore KEEP MY STAUTES and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation nor any stranger that sojourned among you.
Keep my statutes, God is telling us what to do. He is telling us if we choose to commit abominable acts, He will not be pleased. The Lord is providing a covering of caution in which He is beckoning us to adhere to, to grab a hold of, to pray on.
Verse 27 tells us, For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled, 28, That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
The bible tells us the land will spue out those who defile it, which are those who do not obey the law of God. I know beyond any measure of doubt that the God I serve is a loving and kind and gentle God, and I also know that God does not cause things to happen in this world, but He certainly can allow things to happen, all the while He is still in Control.
Verse 29 tells us, For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the soul that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. And finally, verse 30 tells us, Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the Lord your God.
All of us live in states that have the potential for Natural Disaster to occur. None of us are free from the devastation a Natural Disaster can cause. Webster’s dictionary defines abominable as: detestable, worthy of causing disgust. In God’s word He tells us what disgust Him, and now is a time for us to guard against abominations. How?
We certainly are NOT allowed to stand in judgment of our fellow brothers and sisters. But we can share the knowledge of the Truth with our Brothers and Sisters who may not know. For none among us is perfect, no not one. There are many things going on in every corner of the world that is not pleasing to God, and God is speaking to us, and we must be able to hear His call.
