“Seek the Way”
Tuesday, May 10, 2005 †
“God has overlooked the times of ignorance, but now He demands that all people everywhere repent 31because He has established a day on which he will judge the world,”(Acts 17: 30, 31).
You can sin like scarlet, and God will still make it white as snow again. That is because God wills all men to be saved. He would like to see nothing more than to have all of us to join Him in His Kingdom. If this isn’t obvious to everyone by now, then we clearly missed the whole picture. God loves us so much, and wants us so much to be with Him in heaven that He not only asked His only Son to make the ultimate sacrifice for our salvation, but He also held steadfast to the commitment and looked the other way as His Son cries out from the cross “Abba! Abba!” Would any of us be able to ignore a cry like that from our own loved one for the sake of any group of people? God did. But He was also realistic to the ways of the human race (remember He created us) and He knew that wouldn’t be the end of all sins till eternity. He anticipated that we would repeat our sins again, and again He was not willing to give up on us. He wants to save us so much He was willing to give us a sacrament of penance so that the scarlet soul of ours could be made white again as pure virgin snow. What love! What desire!
So because of that desire, He left with us through Moses, a set of Heaven’s laws which we are to follow here on earth if we wish to later see eternal life in heaven. These laws were given to us as a map, a guide to show us the roads to heaven. These 10 commandments are our only way to happiness. They are the roads to salvation, the road to peace and joy. Keeping the Lord’s Commandments is the only way to happiness. And if you fall, ask seek His forgiveness. St. Francis in his monastery, whenever he saw any of his brothers brooding or overly depressed, he’d say, “brother, you better get yourself to confession.” What a concept.
Remember, God wants all men to be saved. If He didn’t, He wouldn’t try so hard to create so many opportunities for us to be saved. If He didn’t, He wouldn’t still be waiting for us ALL so patiently with His arms extended as broad as that of the Father on the prodigal son’s return. After all He’s tried, shouldn’t we at least give our end a try?
