You know that song, the one with a catchy tune and a great message? The one that you can definately tap your foot to, but it never really means as much to you until you actually experience what the song was singing about? I came across a song like that- several in fact. Once something occurs in your life- either good or bad- the words seem to take on a whole new meaning. Somehow they are stronger, clearer, and more emotional.

Once the song had been simply good, until it reaches a turning point at which it is bookmarked in your mind and you sing like it was really a silent prayer.

I was listening to my Matthew West CD (a Christian rock artist) track number 7. I recognized the song as a very worthy song, one that fortunately gets stuck in your head. But the lyrics hadn't yet become personal, like they were about to become later that day.

You see, that day, a few events played out that I wish I could change. Those icky depression feelings started overrunning me, along with guilt and worry. It felt like nothing was going to work out. Then I started singing.......


The lyrics to "Out of my Hands", a song by Matthew West, are:

"There You go changing my plans again,
There You go shifting my sands again.
For reasons I don't understand again,
Lately I don't have a clue.

Just when I start liking what I see,
There You go changing my scenery.
I never know where You're taking me,
But I'm trying just to follow You.

As I was singing, I was quietly sharing my pain with the Lord, and confirming the way I felt. And by singing, and experiencing a painful event, I came to a comforting realization that God is in control. Everything happens for a purpose according to God's plan, and it's out of my hands.

God knows what He's doing, and many times we don't understand.

No matter how painful a situation may get, know that God has a plan, and what He's doing far exceeds our plans. Learn from the situation, and become a better person because of it. Run to Jesus, sing to Him, and secretly share with Him what's hurting you. And for just a moment, all the depression, guilt, and worry fades away, and you are joyful that you have a God with a perfectly perfect plan for your life.
