“If We Hate Each Other How Can We Love Christ?”
By
Calvin J. Moss
St. Matthew 18:15-17 says moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou has gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.
In St. John 13:34-35 Jesus says: A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another. The words love one another cannot be stressed enough. For many believers it seems like the word love is a four-letter word. Rarely will you hear preaching on loving one another, probably because it is rarely practiced. We know that love is the basis of our faith in Jesus Christ because the monument scripture in St. John 3:16 says for God so loved the world…
Now the scripture in the first paragraph says if thy brother shall trespass against thee go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee thou hast gained thy brother. I believe that he that hears thee walks in love and he that hears thee not walks in the flesh. First John 2:9-10 says he that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. If God loves us no matter what we have done, we should love each other no matter what we have done to each other.
If we hate each other how can we love Christ when God is love? When Christians drag each other`s name and business through the mud, what one is sowing among the brethren is discord. Satan is the author of discord. When we engage in this type of behavior, what we are doing is the work of the devil. One reason why people do not want to come to church is because of how we treat each other yet we call ourselves Christians. To the world we are known as hypocrites. The world says if that`s how they treat each other then they do not want to be apart of the church. I understand that we are not perfect but we still need to love each other as Christians, and not talk about each other like dogs.
I felt it was necessary to talk about love in this article because it has not been displayed in deed and seems to go ignored. Many people do not want to talk about love because it is a touchy subject particularly with the younger generation of Christians in their teens, 20`s and 30`s. First John 4:21 says and this commandment have we from him, that he who loveth God loves his brother also. Amen.
