Growing In God Is A Process
By
Calvin J. Moss
Phillipians 3:14 say: I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
The word process is a systematic series of actions directed to some end. Growing in God is necessary if we are going to become spiritually mature in Christ. As Christians, that should be our ultimate goal; to become like Christ. Just as a baby grows into an adult or a caterpillar into a butterfly, one of our purposes is to grow from babes into mature soldiers. We must continue to learn, grow and know that mistakes will be made along the journey.
Many Christians give up because they think that every move made is supposed to be perfect and when they miss the mark they get down on themselves, give up and quit. We have to allow room for some failure because there will be some. That is the reason why God gives us grace because he knows our shortcomings. When we fall short we need to pick ourselves up and continue in God. No man or woman has ever achieved anything great in God without falling short at some point in his or her life. The world thinks that Christians are supposed to automatically be perfect but from my experiences that`s just not true. Perfection is a process.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 say: for there is not a just man upon the earth that doeth good and sinneth not. Although the bible says the way of a transgressor is hard, being a Christian is not that easy because when you first saved, your flesh is a mess, especially if you need deliverance from something. If being a Christian were easy, backsliding would be unheard of. It take time to bring the flesh under subjection.
If a man or woman thinks that he or she has finally arrived in Christ, let him take heed lest he fall. Although we are kingdom children we are still on earth and are charged to workout our own salvation. There is a price involved and there is no price tag on what the cost is because you NEVER STOP PAYING.
We need not focus on where we are at now, but look at where we want to go. In the end, we should want to say it was worth it going through the temptations, the heartaches, the tears, the disappointments and the falls. In addition, we want to say those words that the Apostle Paul said in second Timothy 4:7: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Amen.
