I was thinking this morning of those little packages you can buy in the dollar store - they are dry and flat, but have appealing shapes, and different sizes.

They don't look like much on the outside, but if you take it home and drop water on it, they are transformed.

The water is like the key that unlocks the door, and what these tiny objects were meant to be comes to the fore - for instead of a flat dry thing that seems to have no use, instead there before your eyes, a pliant sponge, soft and colorful pops into view....

I think of myself like that dry sponge before I met you...there was so much inside that I dared not show, so I hid it from view, and what the world saw was a useful shape, maybe so, but the true person within was only seen by a few.

So I just existed, my loneliness and pain tucked away out of sight, and I was resigned to never be able to live in the light.

Then Jesus came into my life with a different plan - and He swept out all the dust and debris from the past, and put inside a lasting joy instead.

And when He had shown me it was ok to dare to dream, He then made each one come true, fast as I dreamed them it seemed.

But Jesus saved for the last the gift that was the best, the one that was more cherished than all the rest - He brought you into my life, and your love was like dew that soaked my poor dry sponge and made it brand new.

Now my life will never be dry again, for its true - that the love God gave to us flows from Him; you give it to me, as I give it back to you.
