"Hannah's Hidden Hope" was a skit a friend of mine wrote for our church's Children's Ministry Easter Program. My Friend asked me to write a song about a young girl's (the daughter of a Pharisee) conflict within herself concerning Christ. She knows the Jewish law and prophecy, but the things her father has told her leads her to believe Jesus was a blasphemer, but there is a shadow of doubt, after all she did witness His torture, crucifixion, and death: Can the King she had been waiting for die?

I asked my friend to make the spoken part below a monolouge, so we could have more background information on Hannah. This is the original as I wrote it, before the monolouge was written, but it basically sums it up.

"Hannah's Song"

{Spoken}
He was there at the well
He looked at me and said as He smiled
Come here child

This is what I said to Him,
You claim to be the Son of God
My father says this isn’t so
I really shouldn’t talk to you
I need to get this water home

{Sung}
So much has happened since that day
Should I turn from my father’s ways?
{Spoken}
What if I’m wrong?
What if they’re right?
What if I was face to face with the Christ?

{Sung}
(But…)
I can’t see how a Man poorer than me
Could claim to be my King
How could a Carpenter, who was nailed to a cross
Couldn’t save Himself, yet claimed to save the lost
Can the Messiah, the Word made flesh

{Spoken}
Die like a thief? Die like the rest?
I know what I saw

{Sung}
But…
I can believe the Scriptures, and I know what they say
I believe it rained for forty nights and days
I believe in Manna from the sky
Enoch and Elijah, they never died
I believe in so many things
So why can’t I believe in Him?

I want to believe like the kids I know
I want to see that there is proof to show
What’s the truth and what’s a lie?
Did He really raise after he died?
Lord, help me see
Help me believe
