I had a couple of drinks after dinner, to help me get to sleep.
And I drank and partied all weekend, to get me throught the week.

I'm not a alcoholic I'd say, for beer is all I drink.
I hold a job, take care of home, and I don't care what anyone thinks.

And by tradition, every Sunday, church I had to attend.
I'd take the kids, and pay my tithes, that should cover most of my sins.

I was on this road to destruction, for God knows how many years.
30 days in my hospital bed I lie unable to stop the tears.

I finally realized I was in trouble, when I had to stop drinking.
The devil had stole my joy and hope, now it was my health he was seeking.

All of a sudden that tradition of church started kicking in.
I heard a verse going through my mind over and over again.

I prayed, "Lord I stretch my hands to thee, no other help I know".
He freed me of the addiction when he heard my cry, and the devil he had to go.

The choir sings,"O taste and see that the Lord is good", so I drank a tall glass.
I was drunk in the Spirit and the joy I felt, I knew was going to last.

The Spirit was still with me, the next morning I wasn't the same.
I had a Jesus hangover as I sang and praised his name.

A hangover that required no Aspirin, or my face above the toilet.
I sing, "This is a day that the Lord has made, and I will rejoice in it".
