“In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be put to shame. Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; incline Your ear to me, and save me. Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and fortress.

Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You.” Psalms 71:1-6

“In You, O LORD, I put my trust”...the LORD did not need to hear this over and over but David needed to declare it to himself over and over again. The LORD would see the truth of his declaration in the living of his life and shame would come when the life did not match the lips.

In the righteousness that he received from the LORD he would be delivered and saved. The inclination of the ear of God to him would preface this salvation.

A faithful strong tower was his in which to take refuge time after time, a rock uncrushable and a fortress unassailable.

Unrighteousness and cruelty were present but the Lord God was his hope and had been his trust from a young age. He knew that his birth was in the plan of God and he was confident that his life mattered even when others denied that by their regard of him. He knew no other home to be found for his praise than in the person of his God.

Because my trust and His deliverance go hand-in-hand (although His mercy exceeds my feeble trust), I will seek to put my trust in him as my uncrushable Rock and unassailable Fortress, by His grace and for His glory.
