“God be merciful to us and bless us and cause His face to shine upon us, Selah. That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. Let the people praise You, O God; let the people praise You.

Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, and govern the nations on earth. Selah.

Let the people praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You. Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him,” Psalms 67:1-7

The psalmist could not have made a better request than to have the face of God to shine upon him. Mercy and blessing would proceed this benevolent shedding of the light of God upon him. There must be a pause, with wonder, that he would and could request such from a holy God. This “shining” would be a testimony of the saving way of God and its effect would reach far and wide.

Let the praise of God be not partial but all-encompassing when the nations in gladness and joy see Him for who He is. In righteousness the nations will be governed and in this future state there will be bounty and blessing. The psalmist knew that the blessing of Israel would bring a reaction from the world that could not be realized otherwise.
