Honouring God

Have you ever paused and think about honouring God in all that you do?

What does that  mean to honour God? Does going to church regularly enough to honour God? Does our tithing and offering be enough to honour God?

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Here we see in 1 Corinthians that we are reminded our body belong to God, we belong to God when we received His redemption over us. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which He dwells within us now. 

"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17

With a heart of 'gratitude' to our loving God, we will do everything unto Him so to glorify His name among pagans around us in this world. 

In order to honour God - it requires 'actions' on our part, it is not something passive but active. Without a heart of 'gratitude', being thankful to the God who saved us out of darkness, we cannot possibly do things that honour or please Him. We have the tendency to take credits for we are totally human. We love and crave for human praises within our home or workplace. Don't you agree? It is important for us to remain 'thankful' to God. 

"Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him." Proverbs 14:31

This Proverbs showed us how to honour God through our actions or reactions to the poor around us. Do we act like the pagans that we also despise the poor or do we reach out to those who are poor? Having the same 'compassionate' heart like Jesus to care and reach out to them? "He who is generous to the needy honours God" - are you the one being generous to the poor? Do you care for the poor or you despise them? 

"If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him." John 12:26

We see that it is important as the followers of Jesus Christ, we need to demonstrate His love and compassion towards those who are unsaved. We need not despise those who are needy and poor. For we ourselves were the needy and the poor in spirit, Jesus reached down to us and saved us from darkness. We are now free in Him. Don't just honour God with your mouth, with your actions as well. Actions speak so much louder than words. 

May we truly live a life that is honouring to His great name. For He is our Saviour, He is our Defender, He is our Heavenly Father. Amen. Let's glorify His name together. Amen.
