“God will hear, and afflict them, even He who abides from of old. Selah. Because they do not change, therefore they do not fear God. He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; he has broken his covenant , the words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.” Psalm 55:19-23

If being before God does not effect a change where change is needed, then this is an indication that the proper “fear” (awesome reverence) of God is not present. The man who does not reverence God carries on in his life as though God does not exist and thinks little of his responsibility before Him. He says in effect, “This is just the way I am” and carries on.

When burdened down, the psalmist knew there was a way to have that burden not only lightened but actually to be freed from under it. And how?... “cast your burden on the LORD” and he knows His God well enough to know He invites him to do so.

Burdens unbalance a person, making their steps laborious and unsteady; but with the release of the burden comes a lightness of step not known before.

The foot is steadied in the assurance that He shall never permit the righteous in Him to be moved. The deceitful and unrighteous can expect to be moved violently but the psalmist knew in whom his stability was found.

Because my God has promised to carry for me any burden that I cast upon Him, I would be amiss in not doing so that my heavy step may be lightened, as well as my heart, by His grace and for His glory.
