“I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I will call upon the LORD who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.” Psalm 18:1-3

I will to love You, O LORD, says the psalmist. Then he goes on to describe this LORD whom he wills to love...

my rock – a steadfast foundation,

my fortress– a ready tower of protection,

my God– the One and only true God,

my strength– a fountain of power and endurance for the battle-wearied,

my shield– the guard of my heart against the onslaught of weapons formed against me,

the horn of my salvation– the LORD being the power behind the only salvation that can save,

my stronghold– that which remains when all else has fallen away.

This LORD whom the psalmist loves is the One in whom he puts his trust. He will not call upon Him in vain and He is worthy of all his praise. If the psalmist calls upon Him, lifts up praise to Him, his enemies are a defeated foe before they even touch him. The psalmist definitely placed his love on and trust in a worthy Person.

Because I, like the psalmist, (however weakly at times), will to love the LORD, I find Him to be, to me, all that He is to the psalmist. I will call upon Him also and ever declare by my life that He is worthy to be praised, by His grace and for His glory.
