“I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; my heart also instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.” Psalm 16: 7,8

The counsel of the LORD always stands firm and the psalmist knew this in actuality. He blesses (exalts) the LORD who gives this omniscient counsel.

His heart can instruct him when he has made this verse a reality in his life... “Thy word have I hid in my heart” Ps. 119: 11. Even in the night seasons when darkness is all around him he can know the light of the LORD. The focus of his heart and eyes is on the LORD as he has set Him before him. This discourages his glancing around at other views that would or could cloud his vision.

His immovable LORD gives him the stability he so desperately is in need of. His LORD cannot be moved. Solid, sure and steadfast is He who guards his life. He is safe and content at His right hand and “He shall lead me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” Ps. 23

Because “the counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations” I can stand firm while standing in that counsel. Because I “set the LORD always before me” my eyes are not drawn to the myriad of spirit-sapping scenes around me...not in an uncaring way but in a strengthening way for I gain His perspective on all around me. Therefore I am not moved, by His grace and for His glory.
