“LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbour, nor does he take up a reproach against his friend.” Psalm 15:1-5

The standards are very high as to who may abide in the LORD’s tabernacle and who dwell in His holy hill. To walk uprightly, to work righteousness and to speak the truth in the heart is something that mankind, on his own, is incapable of. The grace of God must enter the picture.

A man who strives for these things may achieve them on a superficial level but deep in the heart the inborn lack of uprightness, resides. This man needs to be born again spiritually and even in the Old Testament psalms there was an expectation of this gracious invitation in the coming of the Saviour.

Enabling, at that point, would be given to walk uprightly, to work righteousness and to speak the truth in his heart.

The backbiting, the evil acts and the unprovoked reproaches would be lessened or eliminated by this enabling.

Because the Holy Spirit is a Spirit of enabling in the battle against unholiness may I fully avail myself of His power so that I may walk in the areas of the LORD’s blessing, by His grace and for His glory.
