WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BECOME A DOER OF GOD’S WORD?

 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. James 1:22-23 ESV

Recognizing we can have a Spirit controlled voice to lead us sometimes is misunderstood, or unrecognizable. Each follower of Jesus recognizes, ‘greater is He who is in us…’ (1 John 4:4) But learning to identify and hear the voice of God’s word for each situation takes practice. Just as a ‘public speaker’ learns to use his words for the audience to understand the intent. The pretext and context of scripture is so important. Using scripture must be for God’s honor, not for our benefit. Laying up Gods word in our heart certainly is the beginning to identify God’s intent, to be a doer.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalms 119:9-11

Knowing God’s promises brings Spiritual significance. It will bring a deeper purpose with application when a particular promise or admonition is revealed to recognize original intent. Especially sharing with others searching for why and how.

Like looking at ourselves in a mirror, can be  putting on the new. Our growing and learning process to recognize where we were, to where God  determines us to be.  Developing thankfulness for God’s love and grace is ‘putting on Christ,’ as it were, with gratitude for the promises given in our learning. Like our academic accomplishments, are the beginning for our goals. So too, being a doer of God’s word improves with time. Practice will bring improvement

Father, thank you for putting the breath of your word in our heart.
