The heart when heard through a stethoscope clearly gives the sounds and murmurs of the heart.
We can have so many diagnostic tests done on the heart like an ECG, 2D Echo, Angiograms , Holter tests and other interventional procedures which give an exact picture of what is going on in the heart.  All these help to diagnose, treat and cure the various ailments of the heart.

But how can one know what is going on within the heart other than the structural and electrical activity? The thoughts processed, feelings felt, emotions that move and the love that resides within. To gauge these we need our will, memory, strength and submission to let the heart take over our lives.
We all know that though the heart is on the left side, it is always right.
For when we listen to our heart, we can hear the voice of the Holy Spirit from within, the voice of God speaking to us.

When Samuel went to the house of Jesse to anoint a new king for Israel as instructed by the Lord, he examined his sons one by one. He found the first son favourable but the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Similarly, all the other sons of Jesse were rejected except for his youngest son David. Samuel immediately took the horn of oil and anointed him and from that day the Spirit of the Lord was powerfully upon David. Even after David sinned because of his true repentance and love for the Lord, he was forgiven as David always sought the Lord at all times.

The Bible points out to us some very heart rending verses which will give a better insight to our own hearts.

"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7

"Do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity." Proverbs 3:1-2

"Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord." Psalm 31:24

"I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands." Psalm 119:10

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." Matthew 5:8

"Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12

"Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them." Mark 11:23

"I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws." Psalm 119:7

"But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me."
Psalm 13:5-6

"Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart." Psalm 119:111

If we can read each verse over and over again in our hearts, there is so much more that we can comprehend.
In harking to our own heart, we will in turn hearken to the heart of God for his heart is always joined to our heart.
