Did you know that before we came to Christ, while we were still seen as unrighteous sinners by God, we were considered an enemy of God?
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Rom 5:10 NIV
God calls us to love our enemies as He loves us. The following verses are packed with wisdom, power and great reward. Please don’t ignore them as impossible, pay attention.
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:27-36 NIV
Responding in kind to our enemies is how we allow evil to overcome us. Loving them is how we overcome evil with good.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Rom 12:21 NIV
Once we grasp how great His love is for us and believe that we are fully forgiven of our many sins, we begin to love like Him.
Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little. Luke 7:47 ESV

I’ve been there, wrestled (badly) with offense and in His mercy I have come through to forgiveness of the offender and forgiveness to myself. I reacted (for quite a long time) like an enraged Mamma bear. His joy and peace are so much better.
