Don’t Obsess over Urgency-Look First to Importance

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8 RSV

What honors God is what counts. I remember many years ago reading the story; ‘Tyranny of the Urgent,’ the value of what really matters with what time we have to use with each new day. Not to be inhibited from the culture we live in all around us. Tools available from our technology today can cause one to stumble in what’s best in recognizing: important over urgent!

When our Lord gives the admonition ‘not to become conformed to the world around us…’ (Romans 12:2), we’re not to be casual with obeying his admonition.

Through prayer, learning to dedicate matters to our Lord, can build a wall around us to keep our focus on what really is important. What is truly essential over temptations of fears and feelings from others.

Better to ask God first. Often what folks and loved ones may text and share comes from their perspective of human reasoning, not from Divine direction.

When the Apostle Paul gave us God’s direction from Philippians 4:6-7 ‘having no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God…’ We know God don’t make mistakes!

Growing in ‘Christlikeness,’ is learning to rest in the power of God’s preeminence and sufficiency, not that of human feelings. I’m amazed how folks with good intentions, believe what they research from ‘Google’ is greater than reaching up to our Creator in prayer and trusting His infallible word.

Father, teach us to trust you first and foremost!
