The Bible Doesn’t Teach Retirement

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    yea, wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:13-14 RSV

As I remember, today is STILL the first day for the rest of my life. It’s been almost 24 years since I retired from a U S Civil Service position. Working in my avocation for over 40 years, before I really began my true vocation, Serving full time seeking to encourage and strengthen hearts in the Lord.

Whether it be through lay pastoring, writing short devotionals and essays, or sharing with the person at the ‘check-out’ counter. Most certainly, our Lord is never finished with us as long as we have breath this side of eternity. Sharing the need and love for our Savior is God’s instruction to each one of His children.

His mandate to us from the ‘Great Commission,’ to ‘Go and make disciples’… There is no boundary to God’s instruction for us. Peter declares in his epistle, ‘our Lord is forbearing that none should be left behind, but for all to reach repentance.’2Peter 3:9

We witness so much disfunction within our so called ‘cancel culture,’ today. The heart of  hate from mass slayings. The discouragement of homeless people and many still unemployed, all this is bondage to find God’s way of escape.

So, to ‘see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living,’  defines to us … there’s no room for retirement! Only finding our ‘true vocation’ bringing ‘The Good News’ to others.

Father, inspire us to this task. AMEN
