   “Therefore they said to Him, ‘ What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ Then Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ ”

John 6 : 30-33

   Jesus said, “I am the Bread of life.” The manna given by God from heaven was designed to only give life for a period of time. The Israelites would have starved without it but it sustained their bodies but did nothing for their souls.

   In its meeting of their desperate need, it was a picture of the True Bread, Jesus, given by the Father. He, the True Bread, would give life to their souls – eternal life that would have no end. In both instances, it was given but they had to partake of it to live.
