“Then they said to Him, ‘What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?’ Jesus answered and said to them, ‘ This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.’ ” John 6:28,29
The people needed to start where God needed them to start if they were to do any work for Him – belief in and receiving of the Son for the sake of their soul’s salvation and then the “works” would follow as they yielded to His presence in their lives.
Nothing is accomplished without the presence of the Lord in the life. The primary and most important work for the people surrounding Jesus was to accept Him as the Saviour, believing in/on Him as the One sent from the God they sought to serve. Believe/receive/ and the works would come.
