Day 3 of New Beginnings:

Psalms 118:24

"The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.”

‭‭     Our Scripture today is one we hear of quite frequently. So frequently, it is quite possible we never actually sit down to determine the true meaning of it. Today, we will spend time figuring out exactly what this commonly heard verse means.  
     Unfortunately, we are not given a specific Author, although many theologians believe our Psalm 118 Author to be David, or some other king or high ranking official. It’s important to understand a little about who wrote this wonderful Scripture because it helps us set up our context a bit more.
     This high-ranking official is praising God by reminding his readers that we are given new days every day. We wake up in the morning to beautiful sunrises (God’s use of nature to remind us of our New Days), and are given new mercy, new grace, and new chances. If we wake up another day, we are given another day to fulfill His calling for our lives. Our Psalmist praises God for this because of the turmoil he had previously faced. His life had not been easy prior to this verse. He saw God’s goodness through the worst of times, yet we find him reminding us that he still has reason to worship God every day. We still see that he chose joy despite the circumstances he encountered.
     Mommas, with a verse that doesn’t have a lot of information (such as historical context, names, events, etc.), it sure does have a meaning that plays a huge impact on our lives. As we go throughout 2023, keep hold of this verse as a reminder to always choose joy. Always choose to look to God to praise Him for the new day He has given you. Most importantly, we always choose to praise God, because if He is giving us a new day, He hasn’t finished using us to carry out the work we are called to do to bring Glory to His name.
