New Beginnings: Day 5

 2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

       My husband is a very handy man. He gets very passionate about projects, and when he is on one, he can’t stop until it is done. He’s good at taking materials that appears to be junk, or used up, and transforming them into objects that are not junk. I remember one project that took place not too terribly long after we had moved into our current home. We were gifted some treated lumber from a porch that had been ripped up. At the time before being given the wood, we had been discussing building the kids a playground. Within a few weeks, my husband turned old-warped wood that most people would have used for bonfire wood into a full on sturdy playground for the kids. We’ve had it now for two years. We’ve taken baby swings off, and added regular swings. We’ve taken tire swings off, and added gliders and climbers. He transformed something old into something new, and the process was wonderful to watch.
     Many of us enjoy watching transformation. Even shows on TV about transforming old objects  into new, beautiful objects gain audiences from all across the world. The human mindset is just fascinated with transformation. New beginnings begin with transformation. That old lumber gave our kids a playground they will have until they are too old to use it. Then, more than likely, it will be transformed into a hunting house. Again, new beginnings begin with transformation. So, let us take some time to look at the greatest possible transformation of all time.
     Today, our scripture focuses on a transformation that is the greatest transformation of all. Our God longs for this transformation. When we give ourselves over to Christ, we have begun the sanctification process. We become a new creation because our hearts, souls, and minds are wiped clean.  We are taking the sin and worldly flesh that controlled our lives, and the Holy Spirit replaces these things with the goodness He created. We are no longer slaves to sin. We are no longer living in darkness, but rather living in truth. We are transformed from darkness to light; from unbeliever to believer; from a child of Satan to a child of God. We are given a New Beginning. We are given a New Life. We are given a New Opportunity: to one day spend eternity dwelling with our God in the New Jerusalem. We are given new bodies that will continue to be transformed into the likeness of Christ.
     Mommas, if you haven’t experienced this transformation yet, what is holding you back from this new beginning? As 2023 has started, let your new beginning be a transformation that gives you the gift of Eternity with our Father in Heaven.
