So David inquired of the Lord saying, “…Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” (2 Samuel 5:19 NIV)
David, who was appointed as a king over Israel, knew the throne was a provision by the Lord, and it was His authority that ruled. David was obedient to the Lord. He could have done things his way, but he considered it right to first inquire of the Lord.
As we read the full passage in 2nd Samuel 5:19-25 NIV, we get to know how beautifully the Lord guided David, giving details for the execution of the work. Isn’t that amazing?! How could one expect God to tell something about army strategies? Does He really know that? Will He know how to face a battle? Can we really approach Him with such a matter? The answer is yes. There could have been several questions on David’s mind, but he was all so clear about what he was doing to do and how he needed to trust in God’s commands.
We might withdraw ourselves from the Lord’s guidance with similar kinds of thoughts, thinking to ourselves ‘what would the Lord have to do with this aspect of my life?’ But it’s so interesting that he loves to be a part of every aspect of our lives. We all exist as spiritual beings first — these are beautiful reminders when our thoughts begin to doubt His presence and care in our lives. It’s not about the flesh and blood but about the spirit. Simple, isn’t it?
“Cast all your cares on Him and He will sustain you…” (Psalm 55:22a NIV). As you get an experiential knowledge of God you will be able to trust Him even more. “Taste and see that the Lord is good…” (Psalm 34:8a NIV).
