              THE FLESH OR THE SPIRIT?

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:5 RSV

Many times when something is heavy on our minds, and we might ponder… “is this what you want me to do Lord… or is this my own reasoning?” If we want to be intellectually honest with ourselves, and seek to put God first, this kind of question will cross our mind often. Especially when it’s concerning our heart to want our Lord’s direction over something we feel important.

Learning to dedicate each new day to our Lord, I’ve learned over the years that my tasks at work, more than not, would find a greater assurance. My thoughts were to recognize our Lord searches the heart. Learning to bring everything to God before I act, gave me a Spiritual understanding that I might not have understood.  

For sure, learning to discern is everyone’s growing and learning.  God’s Holy Spirit abides in each one who wear his Name. Those followers who want His leading are challenged every day to recognize His Spirit prompting us.

It truly is blessing to recognize our Lord’s instruction to us by way of His Spiritual prompting. I’ve said often in my pastoring; ‘getting to know someone you must spend time with that person. The way we get to know our Lord better is spending time with Him in His word.’ Likewise, learning to recognize His Holy Spirit’s prompting, is being slow to act, quick to listen.

Father, thank you for teaching me to be a better listener.
