THE REAL JESUS, Part 1

John’s Gospel opens with the words, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The “Word” is another name for Jesus. Jesus did not come into existence at the time of his birth through the virgin Mary in Bethlehem. His already existing being was manifested in human flesh. 
     Jesus also was involved in creation, and not only the world but you as well. He created you in his image, with intricate design, and for a purpose. You have a reason for being on this earth (Verse 1:3).
     Jesus can bring spiritual light to all people. However, there is also a spiritual darkness that exists in the world (1:5). There is a battle between light and darkness, and between good and evil. Anyone can come out of spiritual darkness by becoming a child of God. It is important to understand, however, that even though you were created by God does not automatically make you a child of God. Verse 12 says, “To all who receive Jesus, who believe in his name, he gives the right to become children of God.”
     Simply believing in Jesus as a historical person doesn’t mean a thing. A person must be born again of God. You may have heard Christians use the term “born again.” This will be defined in the next article.
     To make it possible to become a child of God, Jesus came to earth, down to the level of humanity, and dwelt among us (1:14). He ultimately came to die on a cross for your sins and rose again from the dead. That is how much God loves you! 
     The real Jesus is the ultimate of grace and truth (1:14). Oh, how our culture could use a lot of these two attributes! Grace is unmerited favor. Jesus is absolute truth.
     In verse 29 it is stated that Jesus takes away the sin of the world. He has the power to forgive your sins. That means you can be forgiven for every wrong word, thought, or act you have ever done. No matter how terrible your past has been or wrong choices you have made, it can all be wiped clean! 
     Friend, what are you seeking? That question was asked by Jesus to his followers (1:38). If you want to have a new purpose for living and come out of spiritual darkness into the light of forgiveness and grace and truth, seek to believe in the REAL Jesus.
