Routines have never really been my thing. I'm too restless to live a regimented life: wake up now, eat now, work then, sleep then. Repeat cycle tomorrow. One of my first bosses noticed that within a few months of my stint in the financial services sector. I didn't know if his observation then was a compliment or not, but a few years later, I proved him right when I left the job. I just couldn't continue doing the same things (that I hated) from dawn to dusk. Then repeat the cycle the next day.

But leaving the daily, monotonous grind of my 8 to 5 (technically, it was more like 7 to 7ish), did not free me from performing specific daily routines. Wake up now. Prep the kids for school. Clean house. Cook then. Take care of kids. And of course, fit in some reading/writing. The only difference is that I actually like (most of) what I do now. There are a few I dislike more than others, but I still do them.

We often don't get to do everything we want, especially as Christians. That's why some people think that Christianity is boring, just a set of rituals to abide by. Pray now. Pray like this. Read your Bible. Talk like this. Do this. Don't do that. On the contrary, Christianity is anything but. Yes, we pray, not because we should, but because we just can't stay without having an intimate conversation with our loving Father and Lord, who longs to listen and speak to us. We study the Bible, not because there's a rule book that says we must, but because, in The Word, we've found life when death is all we see, light when our paths are dark and joy in the midst of gloom. We worship together, in person and in spirit, because we have a common heritage: one Body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all. Ephesians 4:4-6 (KJV).

Our Christian journey is not an uneventful trip along the straight and narrow. When you walk with the Spirit, be prepared to be amazed. You'll hit mountain tops, and crawl through valley lows. You'll soar high like an eagle, but from time to time, you'll find yourself wading through the waters. There'll be bumps and roadblocks, twists and turns, and occasionally you might find a curve ball heading your way. But with the Lord by your side, leading, carrying you through, you'll not only arrive safely at your destination, but you'll have a jolly good time getting there.

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11 ESV).
