"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it." -Proverbs 22:6
Recently I read an article "Matthew McConaughey Bucks Modern Parenting Style To Keep His House Old School", where a parent exercises disipline on kids and sets bounderies. Parents need to say "no" to their demands and not let them have everything they want , nor do whatever they want to do and teach them respect. Respect is easiest to teach young ones, and instilling this in children gives them the godly character they have later in life. This is not the easy road, Matthew said, but it's the right way.
Children need to be loved, but in some cases, for their own good, they need tough love.
The difference between the philosophy of the left, which has been pushed through schools, media, and other venues, and conservative Christian values is that the latter believes that society can be improved by building character in the individual, not by controlling the environment and circumstances, as the left believes. The seeds character are nurished in a Christian home by bringing up children in the admonition of the Lord, with parents teaching them the Bible as well as through their actions.
The flip side of bringing up children in the ways of God is the generation that riots and loots when they don't get their way. Ungodly thinking has resulted in violent and destructive temper tantrums.
Parents should not pretend they are perfect, but admit to their kids when they are wrong and correct the sin to set a good example. My dad didn't present himself to be perfect, but lead a godly life and ministered to me and my two siblings, although for some time, even in adulthood, I rebelled against the faith. But, like the Prodigal Son, I returned to the faith.
The constitution was created as a way to manage imperfect people - to create a more perfect union. In America we have lost the Christian consensus that guided our culture. The key to getting the Christian consensus back is through the nuclear family teaching true, solid Biblical doctrine and partnering with a church that preaches and practices the truth. Parents also need to have the school their kids attend not conflict with Christian beliefs.
An example of a nation steeped in Christianity, a city shining on a hill, is 17th century Holland. In the 17th century Holland was a hotbed of the Reformation. Family life was paramount; the nuclear family reined! Kids didn't go around looting and committing violence they way it's happening in America today!
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." -Matthew 5:14
