Are you as Lot’s Wife?

Isaiah 5:21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

In Genesis 19, we read the familiar story of Sodom and Gomorrah, where Lot, Abraham’s nephew, his wife and 2 daughters lived, being drawn by the lure of the big city life of wild pleasures and entertainment.

 The inhabitants of  Sodom and Gomorrah were filled with  anti-god, pagan, abominable practices of wickedness  and sin. God looked down upon this unrepentant area of Syria located in the plains of Jordan, and because of the vile sinful nature of the people, declared judgement against the wickedness with the sentence of destruction to be carried out very shortly.

Sodom and Gomorrah, it’s inhabitants, animals, structures everything, would be completely annihilated from the face of the earth, nothing was to be spared, never to rise again, only ashes would remain.

 But God never takes an action without first warning His people of the actions to be taken, as told by Amos the prophet. Amos 3:7  Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.  God revealed to Abraham His .judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah, and because of his nephew Lot and his family, Abraham pleaded with God to not destroy the people as he bargained down to there not being able to find 5 righteous people in the city, but  God would spare Lot, and his family from the destruction.

God sent angels to warn Lot of the impending doom. He was to gather his family and leave the city quickly as God  had past judgement, and the sentence was to be carried out within hours, with massive  destruction by fire and brimstone, and none would survive.

Even with the urging and warning of the Angels  to leave before it was too late, Lot was hesitant to the point the Angel’s forcefully removed him his wife and his daughters. Lot and his family didn’t wish to abandon the city with all its bright lights, entertainment, pleasures and disgusting sexual perversions.

 Lot’s wife was so captivated by  the lifestyles of the big city, longing for what she had grown accustomed to, though she grudgingly followed, but couldn’t let go of the lifestyles she was leaving  behind, and looking back on these things, she forfeited her life.

In today’s world you hear the worn out cliche, “I’m trying to find myself.” Lot’s wife thought she had found herself in the big city life of entertainment and pleasures, but she was sadly deceived.

Jesus said, He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. Matthew 10:39

Searching for her life in the traps and pleasures of this world, Lot’s wife lost hers eternally.

Why do we put more emphasis on the pleasures of this world and ignore the warnings in God’s word, warning of the dangers in following the ways of the world?

In Luke 17:32, Jesus said, "Remember Lot's wife." Why would Jesus emphasize Lot’s wife?

Lot’s wife had become addicted to the lifestyle of  the surrounding culture and was not fully committed to following the advice of the angels, much like today’s world, addicted to the culture of sports, entertainment and the acquisition of wealth and materialistic goods and therefore  cannot fully commit to the Biblical standard way as outlined in the scriptures, taught by Jesus, the Apostles, and the prophets of  old.  The Christians  over the years have compromised, rewritten, placed loopholes and gray areas in God’s word in order to play the world.

Are there any gray areas in God’s word? Not to God. Yet the Christian culture has made gray areas such as the health laws of Leviticus, the changing from the 7^th day Sabbath (The 4^th Commandment) to the 1^st day of the week, Sunday, which is a pagan day of worship for the sun god Ra. There is not a single verse of scripture from Genesis to Revelation supporting the change of either, yet the Christians adhere to the traditions and commandments of man rather than God’s word.

Paul instructs us to not follow the ways of the world.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Lot’s wife had conformed to the world of pleasures that Sodom and Gomorrah offered, and like many of today’s Christians,  whose hopes, aspirations, relationships, traditions in the manner of living, all the  results of living and following  the world which forms us into our present character, and is often in direct conflict with  God is why Jesus warned us of the dangers of this world, that by loving the world , you are not worthy of Him.

Matthew 10:37-38 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Jesus also said: 

John 16:32- 33  Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.  33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Are you willing to give up the pleasures  and enticements of this world for the world that Jesus offers to those who overcome this world?  Rev.2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

Rev.14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Friends, the hour is growing dangerously short, tomorrow is not assured,  and as Jesus said, ”REMEMBER LOT’S WIFE!”

Are you more in-tuned to the world of social life, sports, entertainment, chasing fame, fortune, prestige, materialistic wealth, and personal pleasures than in following the word of God? If you are, you are in danger of becoming as Lot’s wife.

REMEMBER LOT’S WIFE!

Proverbs 14:12  There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

May God add a blessing to the going forth of His word and to those reading.

Jeremiah 8:20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
