                                                   Illegitimate ?

“You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.” John 8:41-42 NIV

During my daily journaling, I highlighted these verses as they spoke to me a truth I hadn’t recognized in the past. Our Lord was speaking to the Jews with concern over who Jesus claimed to be. These Jews claim God as their Father yet could not allow themselves to accept Jesus as the ‘Chosen One’, from the Father for the redemption of our sin nature from birth.

Then it dawned on me that until we come to accept God’s Son, we are all, in a manner of speaking illegitimate, lost to a world of chaos and despair, as these Jewish leaders.

My birth parents gave my sister and me much love and direction for our growing years. But even before we were born; ‘For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love  he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—  Ephesians 1:4-5 NIV 

A promise given even before we were thought of. Because of this gracious promise I have my ‘new birth,’ not one wondering in a lost world, attempting to find my way.

  Father, thank you for this new birth. I am now a ‘new creature’ born from above, not as one illegitimate and lost, attempting to find life from this world of chaos and fear. But one whose name is written in your Lamb’s Book of Life, to live with eternity as my promised home with multitudes of my adopted brothers and sisters through faith. AMEN
