The Light of the World

By Paul Taylor

Happy Mothers  Day to all Mothers

Leviticus 26:27-33 27  And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; 28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. 29 And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat. 30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you. 31 And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors. 32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it. 33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

In the preceding verses from Leviticus, God had brought the Hebrews out from the bondage of their Egyptian oppressors as He had promised to do in Genesis 15:13. He had freed them and was now fulfilling the portion of the promise of Genesis 13:15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

God kept His promise of bringing the Hebrews out of 400 years of bondage and into the land He had promised to Abraham and his seed, but there was a stipulation to this covenant between God and the Hebrews, and Moses was delivering the message to the people.

As with any contract  or agreement, there are certain stipulations each party is to follow, and  the contract/agreement can be voided if either party breaks any portion of the agreement, and God’s covenant is no different, He also made stipulations as shown in Leviticus 26 and in other portions of scriptures as to the blessings for obedience, and the penalties for disobedience of His statutes and commandments.

Anyone studying the Bible, and especially the Old Testament, sadly which most today reject as not applicable to Christianity, will see the results of turning from God’s ordnances, and instead following the whims and traditions of man and the world around them. After the death of Solomon, the breakup of the 12 tribes into two groups, the descent into apostasy, idol worship and the abandonment of  the true God for the pagan gods of that era, God had reached the point of judgement for their willful breaking and abandonment of the covenant. The northern ten tribes were taken captive by the Assyrians and scattered over the world, never to regroup, and later the two southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin were taken captive by the Babylonians who left Jerusalem in shambles.

A careful study of the scriptures will reveal a pattern of blessings and curses on the nations and peoples. Blessings and prosperity to those adhering to God’s word, and living a righteous life, curses, and death to those abandoning the ways of God for the worldly ways of man.

The Bible indicates we who claim allegiance to Jesus Christ are to be different, a beacon of light for others to follow,  Matt.5:14,15  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Also see (-John 12:39- 1st Peter 2:9).

The true Christian is to stand out from all others as being different, but ashamedly todays Christians are unrecognizable as different, but rather appear the same as the world, so how can the Christian be a beacon if they look the same as the world? Foremost, if they look like the world, then they are Christian in name only. Much like wearing a sports team’s jersey but you are not on the team.

God said His people are a peculiar people. Exod.19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine

Deut.14:2 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

Do you qualify as peculiar? Are you a light to others? Do others see Jesus in you? If not, then you should take an assessment of your relationship with God. Peter said, “we ought to OBEY GOD rather than man” Acts 5:29

If you call yourself a Christian, how do others see you? Are you different, when others  gossip,  tell dirty little jokes,  and tell  the little so called  white lies, do you object to these actions? Do your fellow workers, friends, family members and acquaintances see you as peculiar because you adhere to the literal word of God, living a moral life, keeping the commandments, all 10 of them, as they Bible teaches?

If you are laughed at, ridiculed, shunned, called names, and mocked as weird because you adhere to the principles of God’s word, then you my friend, are considered one of God’s peculiar treasures and should be joyful for the title. A treasure our minds cannot comprehend awaits those chosen as  God’s peculiar.

I believe America and the world is under judgement and the door of probation is rapidly closing to those on the outside. Make your choice today, GOD or MAN. Choose wisely your eternal dwelling place depends on it.

May God add a blessing to the going forth of His word and to those reading it.

Being saved by grace through faith so no man can boast, we should look different. Does this mean we should sin, of course not. God has always wanted us to do the next right thing. There is no better plan than staying close to our Father and doing things His way. Love God and love people is God's way. Love is the one and the only thing that can fulfill His law - Rom 13:8-10. His love brightly displayed in our lives can change the world. Good post.
