The day before Thanksgiving my teenaged daughter and I were headed down the highway in the midst of the first snowstorm of the year. We hadn’t even had a flurry or anything to break us in or build us up to be ready for this kind of snow. It kind of came out of nowhere………….Sure the weather people had forecasted it but you know how reliable those forecasts tend to be. I had traveled down this particular road many times and yet this time with the snow everywhere it seemed unfamiliar. The visibility was maybe a quarter of a mile. The road signs were covered with snow to where the most you could see was maybe a word or two. The trees along the highway were drooping from the weight of the snow. The road itself was covered and slick which was obvious looking at the number of cars in ditch. The wind was blowing the snow and the drivers of the bigger vehicles thought they were pretty cool as they passed me and flung slush at my windshield making it even more difficult to see. I found myself gripping the steering wheel so tightly that my hands were beginning to ache. On occasion my tires lost traction and my daughter became a bit nervous which required me to assure her that I had the situation under control.

As I am driving trying to keep myself from spinning out of control and I struggle to see what’s a head of me it hits me………..this drive is not much different than life’s journey. There are times when our visibility becomes blurred and we lose sight of where we are headed in life. We miss seeing God and the signs He has given us to help us with our journey. Instead we focus on the junk that is being tossed at us by others. It takes every ounce of energy to stay on the road. We, like tree limbs covered in snow, feel weighed down from the circumstances that have caused us to lose sight of the end goal. It is at points like this in our life where we need to allow God to take control and show us that He has the situation under control. Let God calm our nerves and help us through until we can see our way again.
