Prayer is a powerful thing. In this scripture Paul asks the Ephesians to pray for him as he is imprisoned. Here we have Paul, of all people, asking for others to pray for him as he tries to speak the Good News of Jesus Christ to others.

Everyone needs the prayers of others.

There was a point in time when I wouldn’t ask others to pray for me. I believed that my needs were nothing compared to everyone else’s. I felt I was being self-centered or self-consumed if I asked others to pray for me. I didn’t want to bother people. I have since realized that in reality it is a privilege to pray for others and I wasn’t allowing others that blessing.

I learned this lesson through a variety of things. The first time I requested prayer for myself I was an adult and was attending a weekly prayer group at church. For weeks I sat in silence praying for others and their requests as I was having health issues of my own. Eventually another person in the group who was aware of what I had going on persuaded me to share with the others.

We all can use the prayers of others in our lives and should follow Paul’s lead and say “Please pray also for me.”
