                          Loving Jesus, because of Christmas

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God,
    “when I will send a famine on the land—
not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,
    but of hearing the words of the Lord.” Amos 8:11ESV

Throughout these remaining days of Advent, I pray much for the people of our land. The people of this Republic we call ‘The United States of America,’ are also in a famine for hearing and living for the ‘Good News’ of Jesus.

Last evening one of our daughters-in-law took my wife and me for and after dark ride through one of our communities to look at the fanfare and beautiful decorated homes. Each year there is a community near us, which seems to always outdo the previous year’s lawn and yard décor, in beautifully decorated homes.

Throughout the evening ‘drive –through,’ we viewed what was something more spectacular than Disneyland. Now with the advancement of ‘LED’ light technology, it truly is amazing the innovative designs people come up with.

But what was truly missing in most yard decorations was the message of Advent. Much like the old soap commercial of generations back, when they would advertise their product as 99 and 44 percent pure, these homes were 99% Santa and his reindeer. Missing were the Nativity of baby Jesus, Joseph, Mary, with the lamb and donkey in the stable.

I remember in a community where I once lived, there was a yard brightly decorated with the manger scene and BIG bright colored letters on top the house: HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS.

Oh, that hearts could once again be unashamed and without fear to proclaim HIM.
