                                        Is Service to others your Product?

“Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.  For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servantsfor Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:1, 5 RSV

All my 40 years working in Civil Service my product working for the government was ‘service.’ Now retired from one vocation I pursue my career as serving the Lord. My product is still ‘service.’

I have truly been blessed through my senior years to reach out to others sharing the ‘Good News’ of walking by faith.

Yesterday I spent 2 ½ hours waiting my turn at our local Department of Motor Vehicles to renew my driver’s license. [Yes, I passed my test]  While there, I sat next to a person and took opportunity to ask how long she’d been waiting?

That opened the door for me to share how thankful I was to be still be mentally alert and strong enough to keep on driving. I sat next to her for probably 45 minutes before she finally had her number called out.

But during that time we sat waiting, I shared how thankful I was for God to keep me in good health to renew my driver’s license. We continued sharing about our family’s. Some concern she had about her children and caring for her aged mother and mother-in-law.

The blessing came as we both recognized the part ‘faith’ had in both our homes. She shared with me the fellowship she attended, that I recognized, and how the presence of God gives her purpose to her challenges.

How blessed we are to recognize God’s prompting to serve, encouraging strangers, we’ll probably never see again.
