Mark 6: 1-6

Familiarity

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Judah, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. Mark 6:3 (KJV)

A Mother's friend once told me of the time that she was trying to sell her car. She had determined her selling price and was trying to advertise it. Her son who lived in another town learning of his mother's plan phoned her. He asked her about the car and said "Mum speak to my wife. She can buy your car."

Not wanting to involve family for fear that she might not get the deal that she wanted she ignored her son's request. Her daughter in law later phoned her and asked for the price. She told her not believing that she could pay. Before the end of the week her daughter in law purchased the car at full price much to her surprise.

Familiarity prevented my Mother's friend from believing that her daughter in law could purchase her car. Just like it prevented people of Jesus' home town from believing in him.Thus he could not do much in his home town. Familiarity limits potential. It limits Faith. It prevents us from learning more of who God is to us because we are satisfied with the only revelation that we have of him.

Prayer: Lord teach me to seek to know more of you. Let me not be familiar with you and prevent you from doing more in my life. Amen
