Levels of Prophets

There are three levels of prophets but various kinds of prophets. I am just going to teach about the three levels.

First, there is the entry level prophet. What is that? It is someone like Graham Cooke who helps all Christians to communicate with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Graham has a large base (or potential audience) within Spirit-filled Believers. This kind of prophet is able to reach all Christians because the focus in the manifestation gift of prophecy from 1 Corinthians 12:8-11. Yes, everyone Believer can prophecy and hear/see from God. It’s just that some have an easier time hearing (if they are healed) and some receive insight more frequently (if they are faithful).

The manifestation gift of prophecy is to encourage, strengthen and build. You will notice there is no judgement in this kind of prophecy. It is all positive.

Those who have the gift of prophecy and those who are prophets may initially get their early training from someone like Graham, but they likely won’t stick around. The reason being, is that Graham does not teach on the higher levels of prophecy which have to do with spiritual warfare and higher level spirits than personal spirits.

This leads to the intercessor prophet. This is someone like Dutch Sheets. His church is packed with intercessors, and most likely those with the gift of prophecy.

There are three intercessory gifts in the body of Christ and they are: prophecy, giver, and mercy from the Romans 12:6-8. These are considered the motivational gifts. In essence, I’d say that about 70-80 percent of the church has an intercessor gift of some combination.

The giver will pray for lost and for the practical needs. The mercy gift will pray for the hurting. Those with the gift of prophecy will pray in the will of God as insight is received by the Holy Spirit.

Dutch may likely have a smaller potential audience than Graham but he goes deeper into how to operate in the prophetic. These people may have dreams and visions. This does not make them prophets though. These people may be able to read your mail, but if they are not training up others they are not prophets. Prophets are one of the five equipping gifts.

Lastly, there is the prophet’s prophet. This is someone like Jeremiah Johnson who trains prophets. These folks are from the Ephesians 4:11 list. There are less prophets then there are those with the gift of prophecy, so Jeremiah’s potential audience is even less in number than Graham and Dutch. As you can see, numbers don’t matter.

Real apostles can train prophets because they have been through the prophet training. Actually, apostles have been trained in all of the ascension gifts which are apostle, prophet, teacher, pastor, and evangelist.

Real prophets will do the acts from Jeremiah 1:10. They will tear down, destroy, uproot, plant and build. Note that scripture mentions the negative first.

The mature prophets will have the training/process so that when they tear down it leads to the positive of building. They don’t simply destroy negative things. They take down what the devil has set up so that the things of God can be built up.

Prophets and apostles are the only ones who can give prophetic warnings in the body of Christ. Those who give warnings are called watchman and they see the enemy coming. The task of the watchman is in Ezekiel 3:16-21. It is to sound the alarm. There are other scriptures in the Bible on the watchman.

A clear sign of a prophetically gifted person it they value righteousness. They may use the word “repent” often.

Yes, there are wounded and immature prophets who make come across as negative. Sometimes they even get called ‘religious’ by those who have been trained by entry level prophets. Some entry level prophets don’t believe that God judges in the New Testament.

God gives prophets a training process that is to lead to humility and obedience so they can give a judgement with the heart of God.

If you sense someone is a wounded or immature prophet then introduce them to a prophet’s prophet. Give them a book by Jeremiah Johnson.

You may have been severely wounded by others, but prophets typically have been targeted by the spirit of rejection. Their specific training is to lead them to be the very voice of God. That’s why holiness is so important to them and their process.

It may be hard to have compassion toward a wounded prophet but they have positive potential just like everyone else in the body of Christ. Some people may think their purpose is higher. No gift is higher than another because we all can go after our highest call with God from Philippians 3:14.This is to be a son of God and not just a child. It is to be a bride of Christ and not simply a friend. All of these positions are good but not all are best.
