Have you ever wanted to see someone so badly you climbed up in a tree?  That’s what Zacchaeus did to see Jesus!

“When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately.  I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.” Luke 19:5-6 (NIV)

Zacchaeus responded immediately and graciously welcomed Jesus to his home.  Would you have been so willing? Would you have had an excuse? The dishes are in the sink!  I forgot to vacuum this morning! There’s nothing in the house to eat! Could I reschedule for a better time?  Zacchaeus made his choice without hesitation and Jesus was welcome in his home.

Zacchaeus’ choice turned his life around.  Zacchaeus agreed to change how he did things.  Luke 9:8 says: “Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” (NIV)  In Luke 9:9 Jesus says, “Today salvation has come to this house.” (NIV)

What will your choice be today?  Will you welcome Jesus when he calls your name and asks to visit you in your house today?  Perhaps there are things you need to change in your life. And if you do, Jesus will say to you, “Today salvation has come to this house.”

Jesus, I welcome you into my heart and my house this day.  Show me how to make the changes I need to make. Come Lord Jesus, be my guest.  Amen.

I’m retired and living in Florida with my husband.  I enjoy volunteering at church and the library bookstore.  I ask God daily to bless me so I might be a blessing to others.
