EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED

John 2:1-4:  On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

“Woman,why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

Jesus, his mother, and his disciples had been invited to a wedding.  The disciples were learning who this man was. Mary knew her son Jesus had been called to a special ministry.

Even so, Jesus seemed surprised his mother put him in this position.  But he loved his mother and didn’t want to disappoint her. Mary didn’t expect Jesus to turn down her request.  And the disciples didn’t even know he could change water into wine.

I never expected to leave Iowa.  But God spoke to me and told me to move to New York where my oldest son was living.  It turned out to be one of the best decisions I had ever made. God made the preparations.  I simply had to follow, even driving alone for 1,400 miles!

Do you begin your days expecting the unexpected?  And what do you do if the unexpected happens? Whether the unexpected is something good or something bad, God has promised to be with us.  Your response will show the world what you think of God. So be prepared. You never know what God may ask.

God of the unexpected, You have promised to be with us.  Amen.

I’m retired and living in Florida with my husband.  I enjoy volunteering at church and the library bookstore.  I ask God daily to bless me so I might be a blessing to others.
