Chorus Magnus Concert of Crickets
by Robert Schaetzle
“Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you” 1 Peter 5:7 RSV.
Awhile back late one evening lying in bed with the bedroom windows open I was listening to our Lord’s choral madrigal from crickets putting me to rest. These crickets presented a tranquil choral selection of stridulation designed by God.
For crickets to perform their Chorus Magnus concert; there is a stridulatory organ located on their fore wing. The sounds are emitted when the leathery fore wing rubs on the more delicate hind wings, being scraped against each other produce a composition of three different kinds of sounds in their repertoire of music.
Consider when Beethoven would walk the Vienna woods before he lost his hearing he would to listen the beautiful sounds of nature. This inspired him to write his 6th symphony which has a subtitle to a Pastoral Symphony. Even Mendelssohn was inspired with his Midsummer Night’s Dream of Hebrides Overture.
Listening to these busy little creatures in the late evening hours I was being serenaded off to sleep. Thanking God for His presence and wonderful resourcefulness to help let go the days demands. It brought to me a deeper sense the beauty of God’s creation and resourcefulness through these little creatures.
Learning to cast all my anxieties on Him by way of listening to the concert of crickets that warm summer night, I heard a beautiful Chorus Magnus Concert. I don’t know in what key they were playing, but I did come to recognize the presence of God’s love, and this special assignment to help take away the burdens of the hour. ‘Thank You Father.’
