Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:29-32 NIV

God gives us two ears, yet just one mouth. Are we meant to listen more than to speak? Can one learn from what they say, or is learning from listening to what others say? We must choose wisely the words that we utter. Once words are spoken, they cannot be taken back. As Christians, we are to build one another up. Do the words you speak do this? We strive for unity in the body of Christ, and that which we speak must work toward unity.

We were sealed for redemption and given the Holy Spirit. Our words and actions must not grieve the Holy Spirit. Bitterness, rage, and anger do not belong in us. They keep us from being that which Christ wishes for us. These can be destructive, and deter us from the advancement of the kingdom of God.

We are to be kind and compassionate to one another. We are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. We need kindness and compassion to achieve the unity which Christ wants within His body, the church. Goodness and prosperity come from kindness and compassion. Without them, evil, destructiveness and selfishness are the order of the day.

The hearts, minds, and souls of too much of mankind are hardened. They are so blind that they do not see what can come from kindness and compassion. Their hardened hearts will follow them to the grave.

Let us work toward that which our Lord desires. Let us be His instruments, sharing kindness and compassion, and uttering that which builds up and does not tear down.
