A Gift from God Awaits You Today

Psalm 9:11 (NKJV) is a command: “Sing praises to the LORD.”  It’s not a suggestion or a good idea, or something to think about; it’s a command.  Furthermore, we’re not instructed to practice first so we’re on key.  We may conclude that it’s just not our “thing.”  However, it’s still stands firm as a command – sing.  But why?

Accompanied with this command, and all commands of God, is a gift to us.  In obeying this command, we receive, from God, joy.  Isaiah 51:11 exclaims, “So the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads.  They shall obtain joy and gladness; sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”

There’s a transformation that happens when we sing to God.  His magnitude and glory surrounds us.  We’re humbled, and all of our own thoughts, worries, and flesh become miniscule.  All of our confidence is in the LORD God Almighty.  What follows is everlasting joy and gladness, and it doesn’t just happen that way.  It’s a gift that God pours upon His children as we sing.  God wants us to obey this command, because He wants to give us joy.  How great is His love for us! 

As Paul and Silas were shackled in the pits of a prison, they sang praises, and God poured miracles upon their lives.  Therefore, our mood does not need to dictate when we sing.  Sometimes, I feel distant from my Bible readings or from my prayers with God.  I know when these times come, I can pull out a small, raggedy paper from my Bible that has a list of praise songs and hymns.  When I sing to our Father, although off-tune and feeling a bit awkward at first, He reminds me that He’s near, and He never left.  How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!
