A Netful of Fish
In Luke 5:8 (NKJV), Simon-Peter says to Jesus, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” How often do we get nervous in the presence of others, fearing they won’t like what they see?
A few months ago, a spiritual mentor of mine called and asked if she could visit me before leaving on a long-term mission trip. I was instantly honored and excited, considering just how special she Is to me. Anyone near this woman can feel the powerful presence and glory of God. She is a beautiful reflection of Jesus. And she wanted to come to MY house!
So, a date was set. However, there was a knock on the door on an earlier-than-planned date. The house was a mess. Nobody’s hair was combed. Stench-headquarters (as I call them) were obviously scattered throughout the house. Due to the hectic homeschool day, I was still in my PJs at noon. It was her! What?! Not now! She came in, having to step over things that were in the floor. I felt like Simon-Peter: “Go away before you see too much!”
However, just like Jesus, she loved me, my house, and my children. She shared her heart, and I shared mine. It was like she gave me a netful of fish. I did not have to shy away. Neither did Peter. Jesus already knew Peter’s sin, and still loved him, gave him a netful of fish, and took him as a disciple. We’re not loved based on our goodness. What a relief! God says in Jeremiah 31:3 that He loves us with an everlasting love. No conditions or strings attached. We’re accepted by the Ultimate Authority, Creator, and Heavenly Father. Therefore, beloved, do not forsake “the assembling of ourselves together” (Hebrews 10:25). As we reflect our Savior, and remember how we are loved, may we love others unconditionally, eager to give others a netful of fish!

Thank you for this article. I am a homeschool parent and I can relate to things being out of place throughout the day. This was a good article about people accepting you "as you are". True disciples of Christ, loves how Jesus commands us to love one another in John chapter 13. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you as a writer and homeschool Mom.
