‘Great deliverance He gives to His king, and shows mercy to His anointed, to David and his descendants.’ Psalm 18:50NKJV

John Adams wrote in 1776: ‘It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God almighty.’

On our Nation’s 240 birthday there are many reasons to find praise to ‘Almighty God’ as John Adams declared. Our nation’s victory through the Revolutionary conflicts that resulted in our Independence from Great Britain, again, against England in 1812, battles fought against Mexico prior to our nations ‘Civil War’, which kept our nation together. Through two world wars, conflicts in Korea, Viet-Nam, the Persian Gulf, we owe our nations strength and resolve to ‘God Almighty.’

Our Nation’s motto printed on all our currency, “IN GOD WE TRUST’ first appeared on U.S. coins in 1864 and has appeared on paper currency since 1957. A law passed in a Joint Resolution by the 84th Congress (P.L. 84-140) and approved by President Dwight Eisenhower on July 30, 1956 declared IN GOD WE TRUST must appear on currency. This phrase used on paper money in October 1, 1957, when it first appeared on the one-dollar silver certificate currency bearing the phrase.

Are we ‘there yet’ being where we ought to be in our total dependence on our Creator? It appears the challenge wanting God to lead as He has in past seasons of our Nation’s history is waning. Let us keep on in ‘keep’n on’ for this Republic we are; The United States of America.

Today, on our Nation’s birthday pray to our lord for God’s ‘Great Deliverance of Mercy’ that He gave to His anointed David, the servant of the Lord.
