The road to a proper devotion

That ye present your bodies a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God

All my adult life I believed that devotion was a song you read or a scripture you read prior to the start of a program. I was wrong.

I learned something new today about God and devotion.  We sometimes treat devotion like a sparring partner. We beat ourselves about things we’ve done wrong, or about our past transgressions.  That is not a devotion. Others  believe devotion is a time to sit still and reflecton something. It is time for us  to listen and allow God to speak to us and through us. But a true devotion is much more than that!

 A devotion is a strong love of loyalty towards someone or something. In this case, in this case, it is devoting  yourself to God. In the book of Romans Paul encourages (beseech: ask with emotion and passion) the church to devotion itself to living as God would have us to live. We are  encouraged to be a living sacrifice.  Our service to God is not perfect living and not perfect giving; it is rendering service to God by doing what God wants us to do.

So today, do not believe that crying and guilt is a pathway to God’s heart. Do not believe that your only sacrifice to God can be found in your checkbook. If you are willing to devote yourself to God through sacrifice, then God will truly smile on you.

Kind Father, we are grateful for  your love and the sacrifice that you made in the giving of your Son. Keep us sand teac us to be ever mindful of our need to sacrifice as well. In Jesus name
