The Word for Writers

Do you sometimes feel as if your writing is not accomplishing anything? You know people are reading your articles, poetry, and short stories, but you wonder if their lives are being positively impacted in some way. Maybe you begin to grow a little weary. That happened to me recently.I had not heard comments from my readers for a very long time.  However, the Holy Spirit brought to mind the verse in Galatians 6:9, "And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary."

     Knowing that God has given me a gift of teaching through writing and speaking, I continued to compose articles. To not do so would be not utilizing the gift God has given me, which could turn out to be an unwise decision. I prayed that God would give me a confirmation that He was still using my writing in the lives of people.My desire was to write articles that would generate discussion about spiritual matters. That is exactly what happened.  A few weeks later I posted an article on a Christian website and received several comments, one from Africa.Two others were from non-Christians, I assumed, from the nature of the comments. One of those readers said, "I really like articles that make me think." It was an opportunity to interact with my readers and engage them in conversation leading to an invitation to accept the Lord Jesus Christ. Isn't this what a writing ministry is all about?

     Our responsibility as writers is to simply be faithful to our Spirt-endowed gift. Write an article, then another. The next one we write may be the one that really connects with a reader, even on the other side of the world. If just one person is motivated or encouraged by your writing, or someone is brought to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, it is worth going through those dry spells. When you wonder if your writing is making a difference, God says it will not return to him void, and it will accomplish what he wants it to. Sometimes it may appear that people do not want to hear the truth and that our writing is falling on a dry and parched ground. But your writing is the seed. God's Holy Spirit is the water that brings eternal life.
